7. Demon's Souls

If you're like many gamers that first discovered the Souls series after Dark Souls took over the world, then there is a good chance that you went back and played its forebearer; Demon's Souls.

In doing so, there's a good chance that you never made it all the way through. There are a few reasons for this, but the biggest is that Demon's Souls lacks a lot of the refinement that Dark Souls would later bring to the franchise.

The game shares basically the same blueprint, but everything from the combat to the inventory management is just a little 'off'. This is especially true of the difficulty; you come to these games for a true test of your gaming mettle, but Demon's Souls has a little more trouble balancing its difficulty throughout. Some of the early bosses in the game are a particular turn off that require hours of time investment to overcome.

Not everyone is equipped to take on this series in the first place, but Demon's Souls is a monstrous hurdle, even for franchise fans.
