10 Essential First-Person Shooter Campaigns You Must Play

3. Deus Ex: Human Revolution

Deus Ex Mankind Divided

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided will be dropping in August 2016, but I doubt it'll hit the soaring heights of Human Revolution. Yes, the original was spectacular for its time, but - dare I say it - you're better off playing this more modern instalment instead.

Why? Because the same hook of "customise how you play" is front and centre, with all the visual flourish and world-realisation that comes with something released after the turn of the decade. Protagonist Adam Jensen's Six Million Dollar Man-esque infusion of augmented machine parts only serves to make him a total badass, leaving you to explore a city populated by people slowly becoming more machine than flesh.

A meaningful skill-tree doles out abilities at a steady pace, seeing you learn alongside Jensen just what his new body is capable of. Blades embedded in your forearms? Grenades tossed from your fingertips, super-strength to grab perps through walls?

Somehow Deus Ex doesn't go off the deep end with what's possible within its twisted vision of the future (something that sequel, Mankind Divided, just might), making it one of the finest FPS/RPG hybrids around.
