10 Essential PS4 Games You Must Play In 2018
3. Detroit: Become Human
Quantic Dream's long-awaited return after releasing the underwhelming Beyond: Two Souls in 2013, Detroit: Become Human, despite being as terribly titled as the studio's predecessor, looks like a huge step up in comparison.
Focusing on a futuristic cyborg uprising where A.I.s are beginning to revolt against their human overlords, the premise of David Cage's new opus won't revolutionise the sci-fi genre, but the different characters and vignettes the developers have shown off so far have attempted to spin this tried-and-tested plot in a way that no other medium is capable of.
Once again putting the player in charge of shaping the narrative, so far fans have seen a multitude of different scenarios they'll eventually need to solve, including a hostage situation atop a skyscraper and a case of domestic abuse at the hands of a violent, neglectful father. Quantic often get called out for losing themselves in their own pretentious philosophical B.S., but it's clear that with Detroit, they're putting the focus on personal, character-driven stories first.
Narrative-centric games are bigger than they've ever been, and Detroit: Become Human is shaping up to be a confident return to form for one of the best studios in the genre.
