10 Essential Video Game DLC Packs
6. Red Dead Redemption - Undead Nightmare
How do you create a DLC to an already near-perfect game? Rockstar answered that question when they created the Undead Nightmare DLC for Red Dead Redemption. Rather than try to live up to the main game’s impeccable story, Rockstar decided to have fun with the characters and setting, taking the DLC in a completely different direction. It was a direction that ultimately paid off.
Taking place in the same world as the main campaign, albeit with a very different tone, Undead Nightmare put protagonist John Marston up against hordes of undead, as he looked to find a cure to help his now zombified wife Abigail and son Jack. While the main game felt like a Sergio Leone Spaghetti Western, however Undead Nightmare felt more like something conjured up by George A. Romero.
The DLC’s zany and absurd story stood in stark contrast to the relatively sombre and serious direction of the main campaign’s adventure through the Wild West. The experiment paid off greatly as it was extremely well-received amongst fans. Now if only Rockstar would do something similar for Red Dead Redemption 2.
