10 Evil Horror Video Game Villains You Couldn’t Wait To Kill

4. Lionel Starkweather - Manhunt

Considering its reputation as one of the grisliest, most disturbing entries in the sixth generation of gaming (exceeded merely by its own sequel no less), it's hardly surprising Manhunt provided some truly vile antagonists to tangle with.

In Lionel Starkweather, we get a fearsome lead sicko out to make protagonist James Earle Cash's already pretty blood-soaked life a whole lot more brutal. Forcing the death row inmate into a series of increasingly grizzly snuff films, Starkweather seems to be getting oddly aroused by some of the violent goings-on.

Voiced by Brian Cox, this increasingly insufferable villain's even more of a control freak than Logan Roy whilst managing to be considerably more reprehensible. As the player progresses through the increasingly high-risk murder festivals on offer, more of Starkweather's backstory is revealed. In a fun bit of shared-universe trivia, it turns out Starkweather's from Los Santos (yes, that Los Santos) and has moved out of producing feature films and into producing the unfortunate snuff horror we're subjected to here.

After hours and hours of having the sinister producer direct away at the protagonist in increasingly grating fashion, and organising unspeakable cruelty against the guy's family, the grand climax of the game is among the most satisfying moments Rockstar have ever produced. Bursting into the cinematic sleazeball's office, the player gets the great pleasure of introducing Mr. Starkweather to a chainsaw.
