10 Exact Moments Video Games Stopped Trying

9. The Launch - Fallout 76

Has there been a more divisive game ever launched than Fallout 76?

In an example of how to go from one of the most beloved companies in the world, to one of the most hated in an astonishingly short space of time, the release and immediate reception to Fallout 76 was, for many fans, the exact moment when Bethesda stopped trying and stopped caring.

Riding high on the acclaim of Fallout 4, 76 was Bethesda's first ever venture into the world of multiplayer. However, there were issues from almost the second it was released. The initial build looked no better than the games before, was plagued by game-breaking bugs and faults, was built with an aggressive pay-to-win model, and didn't even feature any human NPCs.

It was little more than a walking simulator across a post-apocalyptic world in comparison to the Fallouts that had come before it, and Eurogamer even cut their review of the game short due to the huge amount of glitches and bugs they had to contest with. And whilst Bethesda have since gone on to try and make amends with updates and refunds, the damage had well and truly been done.
