Street Fighter 2 may be one of the best fighting games of all time, but does that give it the win?
Not necessarily.
What makes this particularly difficult is how embarrassing both franchises’ most recent games have been. Street Fighter V launched with barely any content and Mortal Kombat 11 prioritised grinding over everything else, at least at launch. They were both pretty messy, to say the least.
Those issues aside, both Mortal Kombat 11 and Street Fighter V had exceptional fighting mechanics and a lot of love poured into them, which makes deciding harder.
Although classic Street Fighter is more iconic than Mortal Kombat thanks to its second game, Mortal Kombat has become the more well-known and beloved title of the current era, whereas Street Fighter seems to have been soured.
