10 Fantastic Video Games You’ll Never Play Because They’re Too Hard

6. XCOM... Without Reloading Whenever Someone Dies

Don't act like you don't do it - everyone except the most hardened militaristically-minded individuals always reload their save after losing a soldier. Every. Single. Time. For those not in the know about this spectacular hidden gem of a game, XCOM tasks you with being an ominously-titled Commander in charge of a squad of fully-customisable troops, all trying to stave off an alien attack in various cities across the globe. You'll train them up, have your own favourites, develop custom-strategies for deployment - and become extremely attached to something like a sniper you've nicknamed Deadshot... RIP, sweet prince. So, with the game's difficulty meaning one wrong move leaves your guys out in the open, only for alien lasers to slice through them like butter half an hour into a mission - nobody in their right mind would continue on without the units you've refined to be Daddy's Little Killing Machines. And Ironman mode, where the game auto-saves after every single input, forcing you to go through and live with your decisions or simply restarting the whole thing? Forget about it. Note: Don't actually forget about it, XCOM is stupidly good and maddeningly addictive in all the best ways.
