10 Fatal Issues That Could Kill Destiny 2
3. Lack Of Gear And Weapon Variety
ungie's had three years to create entirely new assets for its sci-fi sequel, and yet, the first two limited-time events to arrive, Faction Rally and Iron Banner, have been stocked with reskins galore. The latter at least has a brand new armor set to shoot for, but even then, without randomly-generated perks, there's no incentive to keep playing for duplicates.
Gear Mods are the obvious replacement for Destiny's RNG fiesta, but they're just so bland, not to mention inconsequential. Slapping a Kinetic recoil reduction Mod on a weapon should make a noticeable difference, not prompt menu revisits to confirm application.
Removing the original game's necessity to grind the same content, ad nauseam, until the perfect specimen of a particular weapon was found can only be a good thing, but Mods aren't a suitable replacement. Not in their current form, at least. Why not introduce some rarer, more powerful types into the mix that distinguish otherwise identical items from each other?
Hell, kill two birds with one stone and outfit Xur with a selection of exclusive Mods not obtainable anywhere else. Do that, and he'd actually be worth the weekly visit.
