9. Having Continued Third-Party Support From Major Developers & Publishers
The Wii U enjoyed various ports from PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in their later years: Mass Effect 3, Assassin's Creed III and IV, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Amazing Spider-Man 2, 007 Legends, Batman: Arkham City, and a few other notable titles. But the support from Activision, EA, Square-Enix and Warner soon dried up. Others like Take-Two never made an appearance on the console at all.
In 2012-3, various studio heads and CEOs including Strauss Zelnick and Todd Howard began publicly admitting they had no games on the horizon for the ailing Nintendo machine, and this was the beginning of the end.
If Nintendo could have engaged better third party support in the first few years and tried to maintain a parity with the 360 and PS3 - perhaps with games like Advanced Warfare, Dark Souls II, Shadow of Mordor and others - we might have seen a system selling closer to the GameCube's 22 million sales.
