6. Visit A New Region

It’s hard to imagine, given the size of the franchise these days, but many at Game Freak feared that Gold & Silver, the second Pokémon games, would be the last. Because of this, they worked overtime to include Kanto in the game too, thinking it would be a great send off for fans.

The reason that battle with Red is so tough is because it was meant to be a trainer’s final showdown.

Obviously, rather than fizzle out, the franchise kicked on to become one of the biggest in all of entertainment. What was supposed to be a departing tribute has only raised expectations. Each game, fans now hope for another region to explore, and each game fans end up disappointed.

However, with Sword & Shield, there is a distinct chance it could happen. For one, as the first main series game on the Switch they may be a bit more likely to shoot for the moon, and this is an easy crowd pleaser.

Logistically too, with Kalos based on France and Galar on the UK, it stands to reason that there could be some crossover, and the map suggests there are a couple of ways it could happen.
