10 Ferocious Video Game Storms You Won't Survive
4. Radiation - Bionic Commando (2009)
Swinging its way into the fourth spot is the edgy, teenage rebellion version of Capcom's beloved series, Bionic Commando.
After unleashing a weapon that causes a massive, localised earthquake in Ascension City, the resounding shockwave brings a massive radiation storm in its wake.
Now, in gameplay terms it's actually a mild threat. You're never bombarded with radiation storms, or have to escape a cloud of it coming to turn your insides out.
Instead, it actually falls back into that ol' gaming shorthand of "out of bounds" macguffin to stop you having fun. It's a bit of a shame, really, as this could have allowed endless possibilities to explore, like a bionic Spider-man, instead of shoehorning you through a linear path.
It's a shame that such a large plot device is relegated to path correction device instead of utilising it, a la Fallout, but that's Bionic Commando for you.
Hey, at least they didn't do anything too daft and imply your wife is in your bionic arm or something, right...?
