10 Final Fantasy Characters Who Almost Ruined Their Own Games
6. Zell (Final Fantasy VIII)
Perhaps it's intentional that nearly every Final Fantasy game has a character that's been perfectly designed to annoy you on a constant basis; how else can you explain Zell's exasperating role in Final Fantasy VIII? Zell is a near-disastrous mix of arrogance, stupidity and speech in capital letters, meaning that when he's not annoying you by trying to fight everyone, he's saying or doing something that's bound to get your party into trouble. There's a great example of this during the party's early mission in Timber. The President of Galbadia (who the group have been tasked with kidnapping) is making a speech on television but before the group can put their plans into action, Seifer storms in and holds him hostage in front of the nation. When you arrive in the TV studio, Zell blurts out that Seifer is from Garden, despite Squall's desperate attempts to shut him up, directly leading to Galbadia taking military action against the three Gardens. Great job, Zell. Zell and Seifer's rivalry is actually a running plot thread through the early stages of Final Fantasy VIII and it's unbelievably silly. Seifer likes to call Zell a "chickenwuss" which, despite being one of the worst insults ever created, gets under Zell's skin for some reason and usually leads to him firing up in a big, melodramatic fashion. He does bring some good qualities to the table (particularly in battle where his limit break sees him performing wrestling moves on foes) but Zell's annoying qualities will undeniably have you facepalming like Squall on a constant basis.
I have an addiction to achievements, a craving for new bands and a dream to become Captain America. I once finished second in a Mario Kart 7 tournament so I'm kind of a big deal.
