10 Flagging Video Game Franchise That Need To Change NOW
5. Five Nights At Freddy's
Five Nights At Freddy's has long been great if you want a jumpscare and an elusive backstory about animatronics possessed by children, but often written off as not much more.
But this is a shame, because the story the games revolve around is legitimately fascinating, not to mention decidedly terrifying - as the backstory for any horror series should be.
Now, this isn't to say the series needs an open world, two-hundred hour action adventure game. However, having some format that departs from the usual "check these cameras and try not to die" might hugely benefit it, especially if it serves to show those who are sceptical about the game that it is a genuinely scary franchise, that doesn't solely hinge around jumpscares.
Departing from what made is successful might sound like shooting itself in the foot, but there's only so many versions of the same game a fanbase can enjoy before they start to lose interest. And when Five Nights At Freddy's managed to make a have decent RPG game, they can certainly manage to branch out with how they horrify you.
