10 Forgotten 90s Gaming Classics We Want To See Rebooted
8. Micro Machines (1991)
Micro Machines started out as top down racer in which you raced miniature vehicles around various different tracks based on household rooms, such as a bathtub and the back garden. The fun aspect of Micro Machines was seeing the different ways the developers would implement racing game conventions into seemingly mundane locations. This resulted in races around a bathtub avoiding sinkholes and rubber ducks, pool tables with playing cards for ramps and school desks with rulers used as bridges. It was ridiculously fun and addictive to play and led to many successful sequels which incorporated 3D graphics into the gameplay, but the camera angle proved to be quite difficult to get your head around. For the next-gen reboot, we would propose a much simpler, fun racer, similar to Blur or Split Second. The game could include power ups and speed ramps and the power of next-gen would give the opportunity for some fantastic set pieces. Imagine racing through the garden trying to avoid lawnmowers, birds and muddy rivers; or racing around a bathtub where, in the final moments of the race, the plug is pulled and you have to escape the tub via a loofah perched on the edge. It has been a while since Micro Machines has been at the forefront of fun racers and the next generation could provide the perfect platform for a Micro comeback.
