10 Forgotten Playstation Classics That Would Sell Millions
8. Wild 9
Created by the madcap individuals responsible for the Earthworm Jim series, Wild 9 is a forgotten gem that lies at the very bottom of only a select few's' collection of stuff that's gathering dust under the bed or in a cupboard. Exclusive to the Playstation One, Wild 9 is a 2D action platformer that stars Wex Major, a young chap who wakens in a mysterious new galaxy. Naturally this leads to Wex meeting up with another 8 strange individuals, they form a bond called the Wild 9, he invents the phrase 'Wexcellent!' (naturally) and thus begins a truly unique platformer. The main difference between Wex and his other platforming counterparts at the time is his weaponry. Wex is armed with a tractor beam thingy known only as the Rig; he uses this to pick up and fling enemies around the world with reckless abandon. The fun comes from the creative ways you can use the Rig and the world; while it's fun to bash an enemy to death on the floor by repeatedly picking them up and doing just that, it's even more fun to fling them twenty feet into spinning meat grinders of death and get loads of torture points for doing so. Throw in some hoverbike levels on top of that and you've got yourself a winner. If Wild 9 was to return, it would be best to redo it in the style of the old game but with all the benefits of modern technology. With the added attention on indie gaming right now, plus the benefits of Kickstarter, there's a good chance that someone out there could revive this one one day and get interest going with new mechanics, a greater sense of storytelling, more humour and plenty more ways to fling enemies into propeller blades in order to cut their heads off.
