5. James Pond

Then:

Not just a funny play on words, James Pond was an absolute catch (apologies) for British outfit Vectordean Ltd when he first swam onto the scene in 1990.

Get past his first adventure, which played a bit like Nintendo's The Little Mermaid, only this time armed with a beretta as opposed to bubbles, and instead delve into standout sequel, Codename Robocod.

Clad in a metal jacket that had him elevating and climbing his way all through Santa's toy factory, this was the one that put him on the map.

Now:

1993's Operation Starfish was James's last console adventure before the mouldy fish super that was 2011's Apple-based adventure, In Deathly Shallows.

By this point the franchise had well and truly jumped the shark (last one, promise) and a recent failed Kickstarter campaign has well and truly left James and the prospect of a sequel treading water. Now that was the last pun.
