This unsettling village is essentially a graveyard for deceased Pokemon and a great place to find Ghost-Type pocket monsters - go figure. The colour palette is muted, the NPCs are grieving, and the music is so atonal and eerie that listening to it feels like falling down a well of despair.
Of course, you can't talk about Lavender Town without mentioning the dreaded "Lavender Town Syndrome," a creepypasta that suggests an even more sinister edge to this region.
The story goes that the horrifying music led to the mass death of hundreds of Japanese children who were driven to madness upon hearing it. This is, naturally, a fictional tale. But the fact this level was so scary it inspired such a legend is proof of how good a job the devs did with it.
