10 Frustrating Mario Party Moments That Ruined Friendships
5. Tug o' War
There are minigames that are hard and emotionally exhausting, but then you have minigames that are so frustrating, they literally injured people.
In the first Mario Party, there were a whole bunch of games that required players to rotate the control sticks as fast as they could, like Paddle Battle. With Tug o' War, it's pretty much what you'd expect: a three player team on one end of the rope, and one giant player on the other side.
In theory, you're just supposed to use your finger to rotate the stick, but games like these required players to rotate so quickly, they came up with another method. If you placed the control stick in the center of your palm and rotated it that way, you could go a whole lot faster.
But the way the control stick is designed, this caused a lot of people to actually get blisters and burns on their palms, leading to countless complaints and lawsuits. It got so bad that Nintendo had to provide free gloves to anyone who requested them, which supposedly cost them $80 million.
But plenty of us weren't even aware of that, and so we still came away from every game covered in blisters. There aren't many games you can say physically injured you, but Mario Party is one of them.
