10 Game Mechanics They DESPERATELY Wanted You To Love (But You Didn’t)
4. Reversal Edge - Soulcalibur VI

Look at that; it's time for another fighting game mechanic nobody liked. Except, this time, things are even worse, as while Smash Brawl's trip mechanic was entirely based on chance, this one could be instigated by players - usually the ones losing.
Like most of the franchise, Soulcalibur VI is an absolute banger of a fighting game. However, that statement comes with a caveat, as the game introduces the infamous Reversal Edge mechanic into the series, and it sucks.
RE - which can be instigated by either fighter an unlimited amount of times - plunges the game into a slow-motion rock, paper, scissors sequence where you must choose to attack, guard, sidestep, or more. Each option has another that defeats it, leading to damage taken on a loss, damage given on a win, and a reset on a tie - with the instigator of the RE winning in the event of a second tie.
Naturally, this mechanic is a cheesy strategy that players can spam if they find themselves outmatched, making it public enemy number one within the Soulcalibur fandom. It also breaks up the momentum of a fight and adds an element of luck into play, all things that boil the blood of fighting game fanatics.
