10 Game Mechanics They DESPERATELY Wanted You To Love (But You Didn’t)
3. Vehicle Building - Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts

Before starting this entry, let's make one thing clear - Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts' vehicle crafting gimmick was an absolute blast. The thing is, it didn't matter how good this mechanic was - most fans simply didn't want such a big change. Imagine if Half-Life 3 finally came out and it was a tower defence game - you'd be annoyed, right?
It took eight years for Banjo-Kazooie fans to get a new instalment of their beloved 3D platformer in 2008. However, fans were delivered a rude awakening when the game dropped, and instead of focusing on the classic platforming they were used to, it was a vehicle customization game. The gameplay loop now relied on building machines and using them to explore the world.
Like a car speeding into a wall, this gimmick crashed and burned. While the game was enjoyable, fans were sorely disappointed by the switch-up, having hoped for a return to the structure they'd grown to love with the first two games.
