Until Jigglypuff forced the mic from his hand, Kirby was the world's most famous happy pink ball. Yet his past wasn't quite so rosy, the monochromatic confines of the Game Boy leaving him rather pale-faced.

The NES' Kirby's Adventure would give the squashy sphere his distinct fuschia hue - as well as his trademark mimicry - but it was on the Game Boy where he made his bouncy bow. Kirby couldn't copy, but he still sucked - quite literally - gobbling up his enemies as he made his way through the somnolent surroundings. It isn't the most difficult game, and the formula was greatly refined by the console sequel, but as a spongy slice of history it's worth including.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
