8. Dead Space 3

The way this game was introduced at E3 was downright comical, I didn't enjoy the series that much but I put that more up to personal game taste rather than both games being bad. I saw that the demo was being shown and decided to give it a watch. I was treated to Steve Papoutsis, the vice-president of Visceral Gaming, jogging onto the stage and claiming that I knew them for "delivering thrilling, high-quality epic experiences" this is where I started to have my doubts about how good this game would be. I know Visceral Gaming for destroying the James Bong game series, I know them for ensuring that I would never touch a Lord of The Rings game and I know them for releasing the horror that was Dante's Inferno, but high-quality gaming experiences? No. They struck lucky with Dead Space so I gave Steve the benefit of the doubt and continued to watch. He carried on with his rambles and stated that Dead Space 3 was going to receive new ways to play it via drop-in/drop-out co-op. This is hardly a new thing is it? I mean yes it is for Dead Space, but not for the gaming world. It's like turning up to a wedding and declaring that you're brought champagne, great but everyone's already had some. Steve seemed really into it though so I carried on watching and to be honest it doesn't seem really different. Sure there are new characters, new location and new enemies but the idea is still the same. Sequels should be similar to their predecessors, they wouldn't be sequels if they weren't but they should at least have something new that justifies making a new game rather than releasing it all as DLC. It will of course appeal to the die-hard and somewhat conservative Dead Space fans, but I'll be waiting patiently for the disappointed reviews that come through in a few weeks.
