10 Games That Would Make Awesome Films

1. Metal Gear Solid

The first truly cinematic computer game seems like an obvious choice yet there are some fundamental things holding Metal Gear Solid back. Mostly, it is the silliness of the franchise. It got worse as time went on but even in MGS you had some crazy boss fights and some odd plot twists (you're my brother, except, we are actually both clones.......and we are programmed to die young). Still, it also has a cyborg ninja and as we all know, they are the coolest thing ever imagined. You would need to keep things a bit weird and keep the super natural elements but play it all straight, not tongue in cheek. It would also be good to nod to the later games in terms of action, implementing the excellent CQC fighting style used in 3 and 4. I would however, take out the post Matrix slow-mo fetish that crept in. But how cool would a Psycho Mantis fight be, or the classic fist fight with Cyborg Ninja......GAH, fangasm. Who to direct? It's a tough call. I'd say let Hideo Kojima direct it but I'd be afraid of him over indulging the more complex (to put it nicely) plot points in the games. No, I think Gareth Evans has just proved with The Raid that he is a guy who knows how to direct kick ass action. But who to play Solid Snake? It is tricky. The character was based on Kurt Russell but that wouldn't do even in his prime. Josh Brolin or Hugh Jackman for me. You need an actor with some age to him, but still youthful enough to be in his prime.
