10 Games That Would Make Awesome Films

3. Alan Wake

Alan Wake is basically an homage to Stephen King. I mean, his name is credited in the first line of narration. Everything from the characters to the premise is pure King. One thing we know about King's writing as that while he can sometimes be pretentious and self indulgent and while he has a habit of dropping the ball with his endings, he has good concepts. Great in fact. Over 80 films and TV shows have been made based on King's work. That is mad. Some of them, you wouldn't even think of as King books unless you are a hard core King lover; The Running Man, Stand By Me, Apt Pupil. So, needless to say a game so heavily influenced by King's style and ideas would also make an excellent edition to the horror genre. The tale of a struggling writer whose holiday turns sour when all manner of hell breaks loose is just the kind of story King would write and just the kind of story that would make a cracking movie. The whole light and dark mechanic would add extra visual flare to a genre that defines itself on what lurks in the dark. For this I will go for the obvious choice in Frank Darabont as no one does King like Frank. As for the lead actor, Ron Livingston would be excellent and Sam Trammell (True Blood) is a dead ringer but there is a part of me that would love to see Daniel Day Lewis play Wake.
