7. Catherine
What People Will Say: You really need a girlfriend. People will take on look at the cover of Catherine, and then another look at one of the steamy cut-scenes, and assume that you're just another pervert playing a freaky Japanese video game to get your rocks off. But in actual fact, Catherine is a much, much deeper experience than that; most people wouldn't know it from first glance, but Catherine is not some low-rent dating sim. It's actually a puzzle-based platformer that centers around the commitment (or lack thereof) of the male protagonist. It's a surprisingly adult, mature game that examines relationships in an unexpected way, yet because of the way the game has been marketed - on its controversial nature and sexy appeal - it's a game you have to defend to the hilt, or more likely, just give in and be embarrassed by. I imagine this one sold great online, but not so much in stores.
