2. Lara Croft - Tomb Raider
Square EnixAny way you slice it, Lara Croft is a murderous psychopath. In the older games, she's a seasoned treasure hunter with no regard for personal safety, or the safety of her enemies. Her opponents aren't much better, but Croft is still placing herself into these dangerous scenarios in which she must kill multiple people, all for the hell of it. She certainly doesn't do it for the money, she has plenty of that already. Instead, the OG Lara Croft is in it for the cheap thrills that the clandestine world of treasure hunting can provide, even if a few goons and endangered species have to suffer for her sick games. Lara Croft in the 2013 reboot is another story. This new Lara isn't "that kind of Croft". That may be true, but she's the same kind of psycho. This new Lara, like Jason Brody, is portrayed as weak and helpless for the first part of the story, even as she wipes out the men that would harm her. It's less the severity of her deeds and more the disturbing duplicity she displays that creeps us out. When cameras are rolling, Lara is a meek young woman, who can't so much as kill a deer without fretting. In combat, she unleashes the beast, scoring easy headshots and engaging in guerilla warfare against those unfortunate enough to oppose her. The old Lara Croft was a bit creepy, but this new take on the character is just plain scary.
