10 Gaming Heroes You Didn't Realise Are Murderous Psychopaths

1. Nathan Drake - Uncharted

Naughty DogNaughty DogNathan Drake is without a doubt the quintessential example of ludonarrative dissonance, and easily one of the worst secret psychopaths gaming has ever seen. Just what make Nate such a disturbing psychotic killer under scrutiny? Why are so many players turned off by this devilishly handsome man with such a sexy voice? How can anyone hate Nolan North incarnate? It likely has to with the varying extremities of Drake's personality. Nearly everything that comes out of this kid's mouth is a snarky remark or witty comment. It doesn't matter if he's drinking a few beers with his buddies or stealthily eliminating his foes one-by-one, he always has a cheery attitude, and that's more than a little unsettling. When you don't think too hard about it, he's a really fun character, and Nathan Drake is, to Naughty Dog's credit, a very well-written and engaging protagonist. However, If you can't get past the fact that he's a mass murderer with zero regard for how many bodies he piles up in order to get to his gold, you're going to have a hard time with the Uncharted series. Just what makes Nathan Drake so terrifying is his complete disregard for the violent acts he commits. In cutscenes he's a fairly level-headed human being with a conscience and sense of appreciation for the gravity of his situation, but in-game he's a brutal killing machine. These two sides of Nate never really come together, leaving one to wonder if he even realises the weight of killing someone. What we're left with is something worse than a monster who relishes in bloodshed, and rather thinks nothing of it. Hopefully with the upcoming Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, Nathan Drake will retire from his mass-murdering past time and find a new hobby. Even so, it won't undo the unspeakable horrors he's committed against hundreds without so much as even flinching.

Growing up on a healthy diet of JRPGs and point and click adventure games, young Kenny grew up playing Nintendo and Sony consoles, before becoming a snobby member of the PC Master Race. Nowadays, he resides in a time warp, refusing to believe the nineties ended as he fills up his Steam library with old point and clicks and cRPGs.
