10 Gaming Industry Issues That Must Die With This Generation

Unions aren't perfect, no organization run by human beings is, but they exist for a very good reason. They help up and comers in the industry they represent get access to jobs they normally wouldn't, and provide workers with legal protections that they wouldn't receive if they were flying solo.

A lot of the problems on this list come from the fact that game developers don't have a union of their own to actually hold their bosses accountable when they do something wrong.

Of course, accountability for the rich and powerful is something that's being beaten back more and more in today's world, so game companies have been doing more and more in recent years (conveniently coinciding with tales of their abuses leaking out into the press) to discourage their workers forming a union.

Despite what your smelly uncle you only ever see at Thanksgiving will tell you over and over, unions are indeed a necessary and very good thing for workers. And the fact that game developers have had to go so long without one is something that future generations are going to scratch their heads over.
