8. Wii U Gains A Little Traction, Still Miles Behind Competition
Pretty much any gain for the Wii U is going to be good news for Nintendo, as they've had a rough 14 months trying to sell the console to the masses, suffering through their own horrible marketing and a number of hiccups that simply made the title completely unappealing to the majority of gamers. Its worldwide sales are soon enough going to be surpassed by both the PS4 and Xbox One, an embarrassment considering they were a year behind the Wii U and will have raced past it in just a few short months. 2014 could be make or break for the Wii U, and though there is little chance of them being anything other than third place by this point, the release of top-notch first-party games like Mario Kart 8 are definitely going to boost sales. The problem for Nintendo is one of maintaining momentum with a string of quality titles people want: they just don't have it. I expect considerable sales gains, but not enough to leave them anything but trailing Sony and Microsoft.
