10 Gaming's Biggest Issues Everyone Is Ignoring

4. More Franchises And Sequels, Less Experimentation

There was a time in gaming when developers would constantly try new things. They would experiment with game mechanics and test innovative ideas to create something that was distinctly unique. Especially in the early days of 3D games when that technology was new, creatives would strive to push the boundaries of what was possible.

Unfortunately, experimentation in gaming is becoming less frequent as publishers stick to tried and tested formulas.

Outside of a handful of smaller indie titles that can afford to try something different, many AAA blockbusters have begun to feel and play the same, to the point where players already have a solid understanding of how they will function before they're released.

This lack of experimentation in the industry has resulted in a creative stagnation in which new releases have become a stream of sequels and reboots. After 18 years of annual Call Of Duty games, the series has started to get stale. If the industry wishes to break more boundaries, developers are going to have to be allowed to get genuinely inventive once again.

Thankfully, this is already starting to happen. Silent Hill: Ascension, for example, aims to deliver a chilling, interactive community experience. It's new, intriguing, and exciting.
