10 Gimmick Bosses In Dark Souls
1. Executioner's Chariot - Dark Souls 2
Although there have been many complaints laid at the feet of Dark Souls 2 for its bosses, the Executioner's Chariot is an example of a gimmick boss done well.
Located in a tight track with infinitely re-spawning skeletons, the Chariot runs loops around the arena taking out players and mobs equally.
The trick is to take out the mages that revive the skeleton enemies, and then race to the end of the track and drop the gate which the Chariot will crash into. This "intended" method drops the Executioner to his death, and leaves you to fight his ghostly horses, who can pack a surprising punch.
The second option is to take out the mages as before so that the skeletons no longer respawn and then hide in an alcove and snipe at the Chariot as it passes. Shooting it with spells or arrows will reduce its HP until it is too weakened to make the jump at the end of each loop and is stuck, grasping the ledge. A single hit will see it off.
Generally accepted as being a new idea and not bad in and of itself, the lengthy run back should you die is the only downside to this boss.
