10 Gimmick Bosses In Dark Souls
7. Ceaseless Discharge - Dark Souls 1
In the original game, this lava-creature would not attack you when you entered his arena. In fact, you were free to wander around to your hearts content - until you chose to loot the clothing that was on an altar in front of him.
Lore-wise, these were the garments of his sister and once you had shamelessly stolen them, he would erupt in a fiery rage, assaulting you with blows and strikes. It was possible to dodge these attacks and get your retaliation in to whittle down his health, but a far easier option existed.
If the player sprinted back to the fog gate at the start of the area, Ceaseless Discharge was so desperate to stop you that he would leap across the chasm, holding onto the clifftop by just his "fingertips". Attacking his "hands" would cause him to lose his grip and fall with all of his HP disappearing at once.
Although initially though to be an oversight, there is a specific animation for his fall, so it must have been intended. But for this one hit kill and his docile nature before you rob what he his guarding, he may actually have two gimmicks - both of which work well.
