10 Gods We Need To See In SMITE In 2021

8. Baldr

Pantheon: Norse

Baldr, also known as Baldur or Balder, is a Norse god who was also featured in some wider Germanic mythology. He is one of the four sons of Odin, along with Thor, Víðarr and Váli, is married to Nanna, the goddess of joy and peace, and father to Forseti, the god of justice. Unlike most other Norse gods, Baldr is not representative of any specific aspect of Norse mythology in the same way that gods like Thor are representative of thunder.

His death is a major event depicted in Norse mythology. At Baldrs’ birth, his mother Frigga made everything in existence swear to never harm Baldr except for the mistletoe. Loki knew of this fact and was able to trick Höðr, a blind god who is also sometimes considered to be the child of Odin, to shoot Baldr with an arrow fashioned from mistletoe. This event ultimately becomes the catalyst of Ragnarök.

Baldr is one of the most important Norse gods to not currently be featured in SMITE. Despite not often being depicted as a warrior, not mighty or endowed with great power, Baldr is often shown to be wielding a sword or spear. There is enough lore in Norse mythology to draw a moveset for the Norse prince, such as an attack immunity ability based around his resistance to all except mistletoe.
