10 Gods We Need To See In SMITE In 2021
7. Epona
Pantheon: Celtic/Roman
The goddess of fertility and protector of horses, ponies, donkeys and mules, Epona was originally derived from Celtic religions and integrated into Roman mythology. She was one of the only Celtic deities to be intergrated, becoming the patron of cavalry in Rome itself. Epona is also thought to have the leader of the soul to the afterlife in some adaptations.
A historian called Fernand BenoƮt found that Roman worship of Epona originated in the Danubian provinces, specifically lower Danube which is in modern day Romania. Not much is known about the myths surrounding Epona. One common tale states that a man named Fulvius Stellus despised human women and instead mated with a mare. The pair then gave birth to a beautiful girl, which they named Epona.
Currently in SMITE, only four Gods exist in the Celtic
Pantheon - The Morrigan, Cernunnos, Cu Chulainn and Artio - all released
throughout 2017. Other pantheons, such as the Chinese, Greek, Norse and Roman
pantheons, have over ten different representatives, with Greek having the most
of any with twenty different Gods playable in SMITE. Epona would be a great
addition to either the Celtic or Roman pantheons, however attributing her to
the Celtic pantheons would create the greatest diversity.
