10 Great Games with TERRIBLE DLC
3. Mafia II
Mafia II's biggest strength was its cinematic story, centring around Vito Scaletta's rise and fall in the Empire Bay underworld. Although 2K Czech's crime-oriented title was riveting, the story ended on a cliffhanger, leaving many wondering what happened next.
Disappointingly, the DLC packs didn't continue the main Mafia narrative at all. Rather than exploring Vito's time in prison or the fallout between the main characters, the bonus content focused on side characters or unrelated figures like Jimmy, who wasn't in the main game at all.
Being the devil's advocate, this could still work if the DLC was enjoyable. However, the new material is so bare-bones, it feels like it was thrown together at the last minute. Missions like Jimmy's Vendetta and Joe's Adventures have little to no meaningful cutscenes, character development, or cohesive plot.
Instead, these modes focus on score-attack missions, timed objectives, and arcade-style gameplay, which doesn't gel with the rest of the game. The missions are far from enjoyable, since they usually involve driving to a specific point, shooting a few enemies, and escaping before the timer runs out.
Considering how much effort went into Mafia II, fans expected a lot more from the post-release content.
