10 Great Video Game Sequels NOBODY Asked For

6. Destiny 2

Final Fantasy Xiii Lightning
Bungie

Before its release in 2014, Destiny was subject to anticipation unlike any other game release in history. Huge promises and fan hype would prove to be its downfall, however, and while it became a decent product, Destiny was quickly replaced by a sequel.

Many players asked for a Destiny experience that was better than the one at launch, but the game's 10-year plan was well documented, and the demand was for the base game to improve, offering more content and reasons to take advantage of its stellar gameplay loop.

Nobody asked for a direct sequel, as it was presumed by most that Bungie's decade-long commitment to the game would be upheld. Yet, a sequel arrived just three years later, and Destiny 2 improved upon the first in so many ways.

Never reinventing the formula, rather refining the edges, Destiny 2 is the game that so many still return to in 2022, with new content being added all the time. The story is solid and the gameplay is better than ever.

Bungie's acquisition by Sony will perhaps have huge ramifications for the franchise, but Destiny 2 is the sequel players needed, even if they didn't ask for it.
