Deadly Premonition is a strange game.

Equal parts hailed as an all-time classic and a catastrophic failure, the game's legacy is so very polarizing. Its visuals were dated, even for the time and so many of its awful gameplay features seemed to be self-inflicted. However, those who liked it loved it, and consider the obscure conversations in the car, dark story, and weird enemy interactions to all be instrumental to its charm.

Nobody expected, or wanted a follow-up to the project, simply because of the low budget and poor sales. However, in September 2019 a sequel was announced at a Nintendo Direct, and stayed exclusive to the hybrid Nintendo system until it launched on PC two years later.

Deadly Premonition 2: A Blessing in Disguise maintained the eccentricity, and showed that it could be a decent, if unexpected franchise. It had significant performance issues on release that have been soothed somewhat over time, but the characters are lovingly recreated and the overall game design is good enough to satisfy returning players.

That's the most important thing, however, as Deadly Premonition 2 is unlikely to win new fans as it relies too heavily on a game that so many simply didn't want to understand.
