10 Great Video Games That Are WAY Too Long
4. Xenoblade Chronicles 2
If there's one genre that's likely to suffer from excess, it's role-playing games.
However, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 dodges most of the trappings we've come to expect. Although Monolith Soft's luscious sequel contains fetch-quests, long cutscenes, and extended battles, it gets away with it for the most part since these elements remain consistently fun and dynamic.
But if there's any aspect that causes players to lose the will to live, it's the never-ending tutorial. Even though Twilight Princess got shredded for its over-explained prologue, it was straight to the point compared to Xenoblade Chronicles 2.
Rather than introducing core systems early, the game drip-feeds mechanics for hours on end. Just as you feel like you've learned everything you need to know, everything stops dead so another gameplay system can be implemented.
What's worse is these guides aren't comprehensive, making it challenging for newcomers to grasp fundamental rules until much later. As a result, players are sure to be learning basic and essential attacks and combos up until the 20-hour mark.
If the instructions were succinct and clear, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 wouldn't just be needlessly long but significantly less frustrating.
