10 Great Video Games That Didn't Get Good Until Halfway Through
8. Kingdom Hearts 2
Remember that scene from The Simpson's when everyone is watching Itchy and Scratchy and Milhouse cries out "When are they going to get to the fireworks factory?" in revolt against the show's tedious storytelling?
That's pretty much what the beginning of Kingdom Hearts 2 is like.
Spending too much of its opening half throwing wave after wave of cut scenes at the player in an attempt to establish the narrative, the story itself isn't a bad one. However, the non-interactive way its presented makes you feel like you're being forced to watch a movie before the developers give you the game you bought.
Fortunately for fans everywhere, Kingdom Hearts 2 adopts a more active storytelling style for its second half, and becomes something truly special in the process.
