10 Greatest Video Game Cult Heroes Of All Time

4. PaRappa - PaRappa The Rapper

This dog-dude with baggy jeans and a red hat seemed like the most chilled-out guy in the world. He seemed like someone you could just hang out and play video-games with, without feeling the need to constantly make conversation. You wouldn't want to engage in any more vigorous activities, mind, on account of the fact that he's essentially made of paper. PaRappa continues to be talked about by gamers to this day as the start of the modern rhythm game, and games like Guitar Hero owe a lot to the anthropomorphic little mutt. Even though PaRappa didn't feature in any more games (we'll pretend the PS2 sequel didn't happen), and even if you didn't play the PaRappa games back in the day, you'd almost certainly recognise him; that friendly little face beaming out at you from the game's jewel case. True to the style of anything on the PSX, PaRappa had a bad-boy edge to him, and the fact that he effectively steals his dad's car to drive off with his girlfriend played right into every adolescent boy's fantasies.

Gamer, Researcher of strange things. I'm a writer-editor hybrid whose writings on video games, technology and movies can be found across the internet. I've even ventured into the realm of current affairs on occasion but, unable to face reality, have retreated into expatiating on things on screens instead.
