10 Greatest Video Game Cult Heroes Of All Time

3. The Gorillas - Gorillas, 1991

Talk to anyone who remembers when you had to go through DOS to boot up Windows, and they'll fondly reminisce about two games that you could play through Dos Shell. One was of course Snake, and the other? The other, dear children, was Gorillas - a QBasic game in which players take it in turns to throw explosive bananas at each other. Think of it is as the great grandfather or Worms. For many people growing up with a PC in the 90s, these two hulking big-chested, big-breasted primates were the first video-game characters who you formed an attachment too. There was something just so human about them - reinforced by the fact they looked more like a pair of naked men who'd taken so many steroids that their genitalia had retracted right up into their bodies and sealed itself away for good. But don't you dare snigger, because these guys are capable of throwing bananas so hard that they'll slice through several buildings before crashing in through your window and blowing your disrespectful head off. These two mysterious gorillas never sought fame nor glory, and never went on to bigger things, leaving them forever stuck in time. But their status is legendary, and they'll be forever remembered by any gamer growing up in the 90s.
