8. Dogmeat (Fallout series)

Dogmeat is a staple companion of the Fallout series, and one of the most iconic. Dogmeat was first featured in the original Fallout and Fallout 2, and quickly became a hit with players. Fallout 3 introduced a new incarnation of Dogmeat, a fiercely loyal companion whose master was killed by a band of raiders. Upon encountering Dogmeat, the player has the choice to recruit him as a companion, and there are many perks to doing so.

Dogmeat is effective in battle, attacking enemies of any size. The player can send Dogmeat on fetch quests to procure useful items. And with the Puppies perk, Dogmeat becomes virtually indestructible, respawning after each death to carry on as your loyal companion. For being amazing and persistent, Dogmeat snatches my number 8 spot.
