10 Greatest Gaming Wing-Men Ever

2. Midna (Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess)

midna

The Legend of Zelda series offers a variety of helpmates across the games. Wind Waker would have been much harder without the help of the Red King, and Zelda herself appears as a useful character when facing numerous final bosses. And who can forget Navi, who entreated us to "Hey! Listen!" so much that her name still evokes a dual sense of fondness and annoyance? Midna, however, is one of my favorite companions from the series.

When she first popped up, I was really annoyed. I was now a wolf and in prison. On top of that, she kept giggling at me and making derogatory remarks. But she started to grow on me. And she's dead useful. Midna is the player's sole point of entry into the Twilight Realm, and she also acts as a guide through the Twilight Realm. She initially frees Link from his chains, is able to warp objects into the Twilight Realm to help Link on his quest, and she can change her appearance as the situation demands. She also becomes very important toward the end of the game, but I won't give anything away. Suffice to say, Midna is utterly deserving of the number 2 spot.
