In 2006, the infamously addictive Football Manager series launched in handheld form on iOS and would be Sports Interactive's first foray on handheld consoles. Allowing players to take over their favourite teams and lead them to silverware, Football Manager has long been a staple of any football supporter's diet. Originally chained to desktops, little did Sports Interactive know what they were unleashing on the world as budding managers took their obsession out into the wider world courtesy of the now-mobile nature of the game. Subsequent releases have improved the game immensely and it now ranks alongside the main series as one of the most realistic football management simulations available. For many fans though, Football Manager Handheld heralded a return to the simpler nature of older versions of the main series, giving fans a lighter alternative to the all-consuming PC version.
