An enormously addictive game, Candy Crush Saga was a huge hit when it landed on iOS in 2013, surpassing FarmVille in popularity within a year of its release. A puzzle game, the premise was to clear your game board of candies by shuffling candies into blocks of the same colour before deleting them for a high score. Naturally, ascending the levels meant tougher boards and obstacles to get in your way such as meringue or liquorice swirls as well as icing blocks. Candy Crush Saga also utilised in-app purchases to allow players to buy boosts to help them out on difficult boards, catapulting the game to huge commercial success. Candy Crush Saga gained well over 500 million downloads across all its platforms, and was the most download iOS app in 2013. It now has a sequel in Candy Crush Soda Saga.
