10 Greatest Last Stands In Video Game History

4. Senua's Sacrifice - Hellblade

Red Dead Redemption Ending
Ninja Theory

Hellblade is a perfect example of what a small indie studio can do in today's modern industry climate. On a shoestring budget, Ninja Theory managed to craft something truly immaculate with one of the most lifelike characters in Senus, completed by a combat system that would post many Triple-A studios to shame.

At the very start of the game, we see Senua who is going to hell to save the soul of her boyfriend, Dillion. Senua believes that it is her fault, her darkness that consumed, killed her village and Dillion when in fact, the more the players see, the more they realise that in fact that isn’t the case and Senua is dealing with mental illness.

At the very end, Sanua is faced with darkness for the final time as an unrelentingly endless wave of demons attacks her from every angle. The combat being what it is, practically perfect, many players will get stuck into the rhythm of it all, fending them off one after the other as Senua is slowly consumed.

The fight can go for as long as the player can last, but in the end, nothing can change her fate.

No matter what you do, Hellblade will always finish with a goodbye.
