2. The Original Game's Box Art Is Canon - Doom Eternal

Get ready to have your gourd blown. Last year, a Redditor by the moniker of DefectivePikachu discovered a fascinating detail while playing Doom Eternal with the Classic Doom Marine Skin.

Take a look at the Doom Slayer's left arm during cutscenes and you just might catch a glimpse of a distinctive-looking scar.

Believe it or not, this is in fact a reference to the box art of the original 1993 game, where Doomguy's left arm is grabbed by a demon mid-combat and clearly left quite the mark.

While box art isn't always necessarily canon, especially in older video games, the fact that this encounter is visually embodied by the Doom Slayer in Doom Eternal basically confirms that it did indeed happen.

It's a perfect piece of low-key continuity-building that compliments Eternal's general attempt to bridge the gap between the classic and reboot eras of Doom, confirming that these events all happened to the same Doomguy/Doom Slayer protagonist.
