5. Sub-Zero - Mortal Kombat
This entry could simply start by telling you that Sub-Zero has the capability to freeze his enemies before shattering them into tiny pieces, conclude by telling you that he is also able to tear your spine out by yanking on your head with one hand, and that would be more than enough to justify his inclusion on this list.
However, there is much more to Sub-Zero than that.
The part has been played by two members of the Lin Kuei. The first was ordered to assassinate Shang Tsung and steal all of his treasure as part of the first Mortal Kombat tournament, only to find himself the target of a deadly assassin as well.
The second took up the mantle in honour of his fallen brother and eventually disavowed his clan following their explorations into the possibilities of cybernetic ninjas, though the series has taken even more twists and turns since then.
Regardless, Sub-Zero has been a mainstay of the series since the very first game and was so popular that he even has an offshoot title.
