10 Greatest Video Game Voice Performances Of All-Time

5. Wheatley - Portal 2 - Voiced By Stephen Merchant It's a metal ball, you exclaim. Indeed it is. Which makes it even more extraordinary that comedic wizard Stephen Merchant somehow turned the Portal 2's companion AI into one of the most loved video characters of all time. Merchant's flawless delivery was on par with the game's ingenious level design when looking for reasons why Portal 2 earned such high regard from gamers and the press alike. Credit where it's due - the writers whipped up a masterpiece of a script for Merchant to work with, but his comic timing and improvisational style added the lifeblood to this mechanical sidekick, hurling himself into it with gusto. So much so that Merchant later quipped that he left each session utterly exhausted, and dreading the next. Still, it was effort which paid off in spades, with the Extras star scoring praise across the board for his distinctly human portrayal of a cheerful, hapless, patently evil robot. Obviously it's hard to verify now, but it feels fair to claim that no one could carved perfection into the soul of this character the way Stephen Merchant did.
